The nursery is staffed by qualified early-years practitioners. Our ratios are within those required by the CSSIW (Care and Social Service Inspectorate for Wales). These are:
Children under the age of 2 1 adult: 3 children
Children aged 2-3 years 1 adult: 4 children
Children Age 3+ 1 adult: 8 children
Children Age 8+ 1 adult: 10 children
We are a regulated body and receive regular inspections from CSSIW. To date we have eight inspection reports and these all be accessed via CSSIW website. The nursery is organised into separate units according to the ages of the children, offering environments in which to learn and play.
Area 1 - Explorers
The baby area has a ratio of one adult per three babies. There is a sleeping room within the baby area as well as a changing room and sensory area. All equipment and activities within this area are age appropriate. Although babies spend most of the time in their area we very much encourage times of the day to be set aside where babies can spend time amongst the older children.
Area 2 - Discoverers
The 2-3ís have their own room within the nursery which contains age appropriate activities and equipment. This room is airy and bright and has easy access to the washroom area which encourages independence and good hygiene habits.
Area 3 - Inventors
When the children are approximately three years old, they move into the Foundation Stage group. In many cases this stage of a childís life is seen very much as a preparation for school. At Little Steps we choose to celebrate these years as a distinct phase of childhood where the world opens up to be explored and enjoyed!
We have a great outdoor space for the children to make their own and which is easily accessible. It has climbing equipment, a muddy corner, a bike track, a multi purpose activity shed and an outdoor classroom. It is secure, shaded and is linked directly to the main building.
