At Little Steps Ystradgynlais Nursery, we currently have 16 members of staff, a range of full-time and part time. The Nursery Manager holds both Level 3 and Level 5 Qualifications in Childcare and Leadership, while the Named Deputy Manager holds a Level 3 Qualification in Childcare. Out of the 16 staff contracted to work with children 0 – 11 years and 11 months, 7 are qualified to Level 3 or above. This is over and above the requirements of CIW. All contracted staff hold current Paediatric First Aid Certificates and Food handlers hold Food Hygiene certificates. Training needs are continually visited throughout the year to ensure compliance at all times.

Key Workers
At Little Steps Ystradgynlais Nursery, you will find a Key Worker system in place. This means that each child is linked to a specific member of staff on registering a place at nursery. This allows both families and staff to develop a strong, mutual bond regarding the well-being of the child. It also allows the child to feel secure in the knowledge that their special person is there for them when they need them. Should a Key Worker be away from the nursery at any point a secondary person is immediately put in place.
Each family is introduced to their Key Worker on starting nursery. Time will be available for the Key Worker to get to know you and your child. This is an opportunity for families and staff to share important information regarding the child in order that the home nursery relationship has as many common threads as possible. We are able to arrange a number of settling in visits to ensure a smooth transition to nursery for both children and their families.
Child Protection
Little Steps believes children have a right to feel safe at all times. All our staff receive strict police checks, and the senior members of staff are responsible for overseeing the company’s Child Protection Policy.
