Little Inventors (3+) - Little Steps Childcare

The Inventors Room is dedicated to children age 3-11 years 11 months. It is a mixture of carpeted area and hard flooring with access to a sink in the room. The room has an adjacent cloakroom and toilets. The children enjoy meals in the room as part of their daily routine. The meals are delivered from the kitchen and served by the staff on duty. The room is equipped to deliver Foundation Phase based activities. In addition to the main rooms at the setting, there are two cloakrooms. The first is situated between the Explorers and Discoverers Room. It has four child sized toilets along with four wash hand basins. A separate bathroom houses a shower, the nappy changing table as well as an extra mini toilet and sink. Access to the outside play area is through the cloakroom enabling children to become independent in collecting coats and maintaining handwashing whilst transitioning between indoors and out.

The rooms all open onto an outdoor space which is filled with furniture and equipped to encourage play and learning. The kitchen is a separate room where all meals are made throughout the nursery day.

Morning Routine

7:30 – 9:00am
Bore da! Good morning! Eat, play and prepare for the day.
Breakfast, time to interact between all age groups.

9:00 – 9:15am (Transition)
Together time, making plans for the morning ahead.
Welcome, register, news.

9:15 – 10:45am
Free flow indoor and outdoor play, learning and rest. Snoozy time for some Explorers.
Staff extending learning and development. Invitations to play set up to reflect children’s interests.
Refreshments.

10:45 – 11:00am (Transition)
Quiet time, check in time.
Opportunities for singing, stories and rhymes in English and Welsh Phonics.

11:00 – 11:45am
Free play.
Maybe a Morning Walk if we choose.

11:45am – 12:30pm (Transition to Lunch)
Let’s get cleaned up!
Lunchtime!
Mealtime Hygiene procedure.
A little bit of down time.

Refreshments.

2:40 – 3:00pm (Transition)
Together time, quiet time, check in.
Opportunities for singing, stories and rhymes in English and Welsh Phonics.

3:00 – 4:00pm
A little pause, time for tea then time to play.
Mealtime Hygiene Procedure.

4:00 – 6:00pm
Later afternoon free flow play and activities, or rest, based on children’s age and interests.

Other Information

We ensure that access to rest is available at all times.

Incidental Welsh language is a requirement of the curriculum. Wall displays should reflect the use of Welsh within our setting.

Nappies changes are not include in the above routine as nappies need to changed as and when required. Sleep time is normally in the morning or after lunch, this is mentioned above but we work around the children’s needs.

It is up to us as Key Workers to carefully identify each child’s individual needs regarding sleep and nappy changes and to record this efficiently at the setting and on the children’s Blossom.
